The WWU’s International Business Network and the Center for
Canadian-American Studies will be hosting a seminar to explore the United States’
most important business relationship. Did you know that the U.S. exports more
than two and a half times more goods and services to Canada than to China? Canada
is also our number one foreign supplier of energy. Each year Canadian supplies more
than double the quantity of Saudi Arabian oil exported to the US. The
significance of this cross border trade is lost on many. Our seminar will give
WWU students the opportunity to collaborate with local professionals in a
discussion highlighting the economic partnership with our most important
international partner. The professionals in attendance conduct Canadian-American
business activities on a daily basis and will shed light on their activities,
how important trade with Canada is for them and the community, as well as its future
outlook.
We are honored to be joined by representatives from a number
of firms including: Wells Fargo, International Market Access, Paccar,
Expeditors International, Natures Path and Sampson Rope. Also in attendance
will be distinguished WWU faculty, including Tom Roehl, the head of the International
Business Department, Paul Storer the chair of the Economics Department and Don
Alper the director of both the Center for Canadian-American Studies and the Border
Policy Research Institute. The seminar will be held on February 22, at 4:30 pm
in the Viking Union’s multipurpose room and will last
approximately an hour and a half and transition into a reception held at the
Canada House at 6:00 pm. This will be a unique opportunity to meet personally
and network with our distinguished guests.
